Common Pool Plumbing Issues

Swimming pool plumbing issues require swift action. Waiting to address plumbing issues can lead to further damage and expensive repairs. Here are common pool plumbing issues that our technicians have encountered and corrected for customers.

Air Leaks In The System

Air of any kind in a pool system can be a serious issue. Air restricts water flow and can cause cloudiness of the water. Too much air can lead to a dangerous level of pressure build-up in the filter tank resulting in a tank burst. A sign of air in the system would be streams of air bubbles coming out of the inlets.

Other common causes of air leaks can be the result of circulation pump and valve issues. More specifically the valves located on the suction side and in front of the pump.The pump has a gasket o-ring that can become flattened or damaged over time. This breaks the airtight seal needed for proper water pressure and allows air to flow into the filtration system.

System Clogs

Dirt and debris are the primary issue that pool cleaning systems combat. Dirt and debris can make their way into portions of the cleaning system that were not intended for such objects. Debris can wedge itself in valves or covers which lets air into the system. Dirt and debris can also clog the skimmer plumbing which interferes with proper filtration. Your pool has many different pipes and connections that need to be kept clear of obstructions to maintain proper water pressure, flow, and filtration.

Poor Water Circulation

A change in the flow of water can be the result of a change in filter pressure. A decrease in filter pressure can be caused by clogs, trapped air, or incorrect valve settings. Damage pool equipment could play a role in the change in pressure. An increase in filter pressure is typically caused by a blockage to the filter. Common blockages occur from debris or algae blooms.
